Making sense of complex global issues by combining various academic disciplines
An intensive, brand-new bachelor’s programme that will enable you to understand and help solve pressing global problems.
Conflict, migration, climate change. Solving these and other global social issues requires a broad understanding of multiple academic disciplines. In-depth knowledge of a single subject is no longer sufficient.
In fact, students need to practise interdisciplinary work right from the start and be given intensive supervision as they try to tackle complex problems effectively from various angles.
Enter Global Studies. The new bachelor’s study offers a comprehensive and integrated approach at the intersection of relevant studies to students with an open mind and an international outlook.
The full-time programme includes two years of language training, professional and academic skills development and a field study in the Global South.
Global Studies - content and education method
All six UM faculties are involved in Global Studies, which launched in September 2020. The English-language programme is taught at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The faculty is located in three historic buildings in the city centre, as you’ll see in this video.
